Good Food, Great People on the Day of Hearts
by Joy Shute
February 2016

T'was a memorable and not your typical Sunday at the Filipino Association, where we celebrated our first Valentine's Day Brunch. Guests arrived at 10 AM to enjoy socializing and catching up with old friends while mesmerized by the ambiance of the decor, table settings, and the aroma of food wafting from the kitchen, carefully prepared by Chef Luong Lee and culinary team. President Kevin Bautista welcomed and thanked everyone for coming, while I (as the Social Committee Chair) gave special thanks to my committee for dedicating their time. Board Chair Dr. Mila Tiojanco gave the invocation, and Program Coordinator Maricar Contreras introduced Xhandrey and Myo to play the piano and saxophone, respectively.

Those who came hungry came to the right place. The brunch started with fresh salad and a dinner roll, followed by a shrimp cocktail, skillet breakfast potatoes with cheese, fluffy scrambled eggs, country sausage links, chicken marsala, beef stroganoff, and fresh seasonal fruits. Coffee, tea, and mimosas were also served. The chocolate sculpture, created by Pastry Chef Carol Lee, truly was the center of attraction, and was surrounded by an assortment of gourmet desserts courtesy of TLC's Cake Boss. There were light entertainment and games led by Maricar Contreras, along with raffles courtesy of Lilia Bautista and Menorah Medical Center.

It was a memorable Valentine's Day; indeed everyone had a great time. The best part of this event: everyone loves the food. Some said, "It was the most delectable and savory food they ever ate - besides Filipino food."
