January 2009
Over the past couple of months, the Kansas City World Outreach Lions Club (KCWOLC) has collected coins for its "Feed the Hungry" Moringa Project. The donations will be used to fund a feeding program for specific barangay in the Philippines. By integrating the moringa plant (also known as malunggay) into common foods, just 50 cents can purchase a nutritional meal for one person.
A special thanks to our members and Community Outreach Committee who have given "piggy banks" filled with coins, cash, and checks: Cito & Tacing Jalbuena, Lisa Hopkins, Mayie Vilkins, Paul & Mirla De los Santos, Joel Gaela, James & Lita Hipona, Marietta Tungol, Malou Nix, Edward Tumanut, Cora Zamora, Sonia Tumanut, Tony & Luchie Racela, Nonong & Lillian Pardo, Beth & Ernie Rosas, Tess Laoruangroch, Freddie & Irma Labre-Wright, Angie & Carmen Chico, and many others who are still collecting.
The Miracle of Moringa Leaves
India's ancient tradition of ayurveda says the leaves of the Moringa tree prevent 300 diseases. Modern science confirms the basic idea. Scientific research has proven that these humble leaves are in fact a powerhouse of nutritional value. Unfortunately, even while science sings the praise of Moringa leaves, this vital information has not reached the people who need it most.
Moringa’s Potential
Moringa has enormous potential for benefiting humanity. It could:
Improve human health
Increase livestock’s weight gain and milk production
Enhance plant growth and crop yields
